Tesla updates his autopilot for Christmas

Tesla updates his autopilot for Christmas

Tesla will do a rather significant upgrade of its autopilot system next week. This will activate several functions on the Tesla Model S and Model X.

The announcement was in the cartons since last October. Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla then told a Twitter user that the company would launch an improved autopilot system in December. We now know that this will happen in the course of next week. The entrepreneur, now special economic advisor to Donald Trump meanwhile, announced via Twitter again that the new features of the autopilot system would be available from next week.

Tesla Autopilot vision neural net now working well. Just need to get a lot of road time to validate in a wide range of environments.
Looks like we might be ready to rollout most of Autopilot functionality for HW2 towards the end of next week

The update of the "upgraded Hardware HW2" will be deployed on December 28, a beautiful Christmas gift for the owners of Tesla. Even if it is not known which functions will be exactly updated, it would seem that the Autopilot can now automatically adopt its speed to the conditions of circulation, to change lane of way or to stand alone.

Despite its name, the Autopilot is for now an assistant to driving than an autonomous steering system. The driver must still remain active behind the steering wheel and safety systems have been set up. Thus, if the driver does not have his hands on the steering wheel for too long, the car sends a notification and then begins to slow down before stopping definitively.

Good news for Tesla owners

The announcement of October was something to worry the owners of Tesla. The brand announced that the new cars would be equipped with cameras, sensors and additional computers worth $ 8,000 to allow the improvement of the autopilot system.

The owners could thus be afraid of not being concerned or of having to bring their vehicle back to receive the new equipment. It would seem that this is not yet the case even if Elon Musk, has not yet gotten into the details. All Model S and Model X seem in any case to be affected by this update.
